Re-learning How to Love

Chapter Three

I've been delaying this update because I've procrastinated giving myself an update. Let me explain what's happened since my last post.

After careful consideration and advice from people who'd studied the languages I named in my previous post, I had decided to go ahead with German and Arabic. However, when I emailed these to my course coordinator, her response was "But you don't have to study just modern languages. You can choose subjects from 10 different courses in the Philosophy and Language sector, except for a few classes in journalism" (That I, of course, had previously picked). So now, having been given the option to choose from 10 courses, classes from years one to three, I felt overwhelmed and delayed the process of choosing them for as long as it wasn't absolute last minute and didn't cause me stress.

I think I'm a slightly different kind of procrastinator. I leave things last minute, but that minute is calculated to be enough to finish what I have to. I'm a responsible procrastinator, one might say.

Having just spent an hour going through all my options, I have narrowed it down to seven, which equals 48 credits and I only need 30. I can allow myself such luxury because next week is a tryout week. We're allowed to go to whatever classes we want and then choose which we'd like to continue with. I'm glad that's the case, as I'm not entirely sure I'm eligible to study some of my choices, namely: Greek and Arabic, since they may require previous knowledge of languages, basics at the very least.
Another slight problem with my choices is that the three classes I've chosen from the journalism course all have exams at the beginning of February. My plan is to start an internship in February and it will most likely be in a different city since there aren't many options in Zaragoza.
I hope this first week will be telling in terms of which subjects I would find enjoyable and could see myself doing four two-hour classes a week in the evening (hello German spoken and written skills).

I'm sure you're all sitting on the edge of your seats waiting to read the full list of my choices so here it is:

Greek

Arabic

German (the tough one with most credits, which I'm sure would require basic knowledge of the language and I think I have that)

Spanish skills

Spanish language (What's the difference between the two? I have no clue, I shall find out next week)

Production of radio news

Audiovisual Narrative: report and documentary

There are multiple clashes in this timetable so with some classes I'll only get to go to one of two next week. Who knows, with some of them five minutes may be enough if I'm turned down for my lack of prior knowledge of the subject. There is one amazing thing about the timetable though. There are no classes on Fridays! Which would give me opportunities to plan sneaky long weekends back in Glasgow from time to time, finances permitting.

Thank you to everyone who's been reading so far. I appreciate your comments, feedback, and encouragement! I will keep you updated about life in Zaragoza and what my next steps are.

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
